DRIVE 40 - St. Louis to Kansas City

Between St. Louis and Kansas City lies the small town of Fulton, Missouri, which is home to Westminster College. On the campus of the college lies the Winston Churchill Memorial & Library. Why is there a memorial to Britain's WWII prime minister in this midwestern town? History buffs will know that Churchill made a famous speech here on March 5, 1946 in which the phrase "Iron Curtain" was first used.
The museum is located in the undercroft of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury. This church, which had been redesigned by Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London in 1666, was destroyed by Nazi bombing in 1940. In 1966, it was shipped to Fulton and rebuilt on the campus as a reminder of Churchill's visit 20 years before. The memorial also contains a section of the Berlin Wall which has been transformed by Edwina Sandys (Churchill's granddaughter) into a sculpture entitled "Breakthrough".
This is a great attraction that few know about and if you are driving along I-70, take US54 south to Fulton and spend an hour here - you will not regret it.
Here are a couple of pictures of the Church and the Wall.
