CHENEY STADIUM

Cheney Stadium is an older stadium, having been built in 1960. Currently with a capacity of 9,600, it is scheduled to undergo renovations in the near future. In spite of this, Cheney is a good place to see a game; it retains a lot of charm, perhaps from the fact that the benches in the grandstand are taken directly from Seals Stadium in San Francisco. As well, there is a bronze statue of Ben Cheney in the first row of the grandstand which is a nice touch.
The surrounding area lacks any tall buildings, which makes the scenery beyond the fences quite attractive. The fences are also worth noting - center field is 425 feet away and to make it even more of a challenge, the center field wall is about 20 feet tall.

The concessions are located outside the seating area, although there was some service directly to the reserved seats. At the game I attended, there were only about 1,000 fans, so lines at the food stands were non-existent. There is also an eating area down the third-base line, which seems suitable for parties.
An interesting feature is a mural depicting Tacoma baseball history by showing the different uniforms that Tacoma teams have worn through the years. It is along the third base line on the outside wall of the stadium.

Cheney Stadium is located on Tyler Street at 19th Avenue in Central Tacoma and is easy to get to - simply take Highway 16 West from I-5, exiting at 19th Street and turn right onto Tyler Street. There are signs posted, so it shouldn't be a problem getting there.
