BALLPARK GAME RECAP

LYNX STADIUM

Lynx Stadium was a nice, new park 10 years ago when the Ottawa Lynx began play, but it has not aged well and it is now far below-average as a AAA-level stadium.

The park is located on Coventry Road, just off Highway 417, east of downtown. There is plenty of parking on site that goes for $2 (all amounts in Canadian dollars). The outside of the stadium pretty dull; there is nothing worth commenting on.

There are two levels of seating: the lower level is $9.50, the upper level is $7.50; between the two levels runs a small walkway. There is also a small picnic area and lawn seating down the third base line. There are never any fans here, unfortunately, which means that you should buy the cheap tickets and sit where your please.

Seats

The concourse is devoid on anything useful, and food is rather boring. The scoreboard is not in good condition (the Ottawa run total was missing throughout the game and the scoreboard went on the blink for an inning or two) and has no useful information. The batters eye is a thin sheet of black material which is semi-transparent during day games. There are no measurements on the fence either. There is one retired number here (F.P. Santangelo) and one more will be unveiled in August 2003, but there is little else to commemorate 10 years of baseball in Ottawa. The coolest thing is that all announcements and signs are in both English and French.

No runs for Ottawa?

Frankly, the Ottawa market seems to have grown tired of baseball rather quickly and the team is not bothering to spend any money on the stadium. I expect the team to move in the next couple of years as the minor leagues continue to leave Canada. In that sense, you may want to include Ottawa on a list of parks to visit before the team moves, but don't expect anything other than an average A-ball park.
