OMAHA - GAME RECAP
We didn't know what was in store in this game as we didn't have any stats to go by. The game started well for Omaha who had a 3-1 lead after 4 innings. In the top of the 5th, Jason Smith came up with one out and slammed a homer to right, making it 3-2. Two batters later, Chad Meyers got his first of two doubles and Roosevelt Brown singled him home, tying the game at 3.
It was still
3-3 in the 7th when Omaha starter Jeff Austin gave up 3 singles to lead off the
inning. This was all for him, and in came Jeff Laxton. Unfortunately, he
could not hold the runners, as all 3 scored on Brown's single and a sac fly by
Korean Hee Seop Choi. In the eighth, Wainhouse gave up 5 hits before being
replaced` by Jason Rakers. He was equally terrible, and when all was said and
done, 7 runs had scored, and Iowa led 13-3. In the 9th, Rakers stayed in and
managed to hold the Cubs to only 3 more runs, 2 of them coming on Corey
Patterson's homer. Omaha tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, but a
lead-off double was stranded and Iowa went away with a 16-3 humiliation of the
Golden Spikes.
