| DESCRIPTION | BALLPARK | GAME RECAP |
OMAHA, NEBRASKA
We came, we saw a game, and we left. Sadly, we didn't have much time to see Omaha itself, other than a cursory drive downtown. There wasn't much to see there, the streets were quite empty for a weekday afternoon, and it seemed like a lot of the attractions were outside of the downtown core.
In my mind, Omaha is famous for two things: hosting the NCAA College Baseball World Series, and hometown of insurance company Mutual of Omaha, which sponsored Wild Kingdom, a television show about wild animals that I watched growing up. As such, we decided to visit the baseball stadium to take in a minor league game, and to take a short walk through the Henry Doorly Zoo, which is just behind the baseball stadium.
For more on the stadium, click on the ballpark link above. For the zoo, there's not much to say. It has an $8 adult admission fee, and it seems a bit steep. The highlight would have to be the aquarium, which allows you to walk through the display by means of a tunnel - it is a different perspective to see sharks swimming above you. Otherwise, you get your normal animals in normal settings, probably good for the kids, but if you've seen a zoo before, there is no reason to go to this one.
Sorry we can't say more about Omaha. If you do go, try to go in early June and watch the College Baseball World Series. For more info on Omaha, please go to http://www.visitomaha.com.
