NASHVILLE - GAME RECAP

Nashville was 12-1 overall, 8-0 at home, and looking for a sweep of their state rivals, the Memphis Redbirds. John Wasdin started for the Sounds and promptly gave up a double to Bo Hart on the first pitch and another double to Jason Bowers on the second pitch. 1-0 Memphis in about 30 seconds. After a first pitch ground out, Todd Dunwoody doubled on the first pitch he saw to make it 2-0 on only 4 pitches. But Wasdin settled down after that, striking out the next 2 batters.

Gulan swings

In the third, Louisville tied it when John Barnes doubled home two runners off Redbird starter Jay Yennaco. After that, the pitching took over, especially Wasdin, who struck out 10 in 6.1 innings, ensuring that all fans would get a free hamburger.

In the bottom of the 8th, Barnes led off with an infield single that hit second base. After Mike Gulan popped out, Carlos Rivera singled, bringing J.J. Davis to the plate. Davis lined an RBI single to deep center and Rivera went to third. Then the Sounds ran a great double steal. Dave Doster struck out, but Davis was running on the pitch. Memphis catcher Chris Widger, signed the day before after being cut by the Yankees, made a mental error and tried to throw to second, but Rivera was running for home and made it easily when Memphis 2nd baseman Ivanon Coffie bobbled the throw. Later, Tike Redman added a 2-run double to make it 6-2 Nashville, who were now 13-1. A great game!

Barnes out at first - he was 3 for 3 after this.
