DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA
Durham is one of the three cities that make up the area known as the Triangle, which is the region enclosed by the three major universities in North Carolina: UNC in Chapel Hill, NC State in Raleigh, and Duke right in Durham. Duke is one of the premier universities in the country, as any college basketball fan will attest.
Once known as a tobacco town, the city is now called the "City of Medicine" as it has a physician-to-population ratio that is 5 times the national average.
We didn't see much in Durham, as we had to move on the next morning, but it seemed like a nice place. Duke University has two campuses as well as a couple of museums, and there is also a tobacco museum that looked interesting. But the most important thing here is the Durham Bulls, a minor league team made famous in the movie Bull Durham, starring Kevin Costner. The Bulls have one of the best followings in the minors, and this is why we came here: to see if it is all that it is said to be. Check our links above for more info on the ballpark and the great game that we saw.
