TAMPA, FLORIDA

Tampa is the largest of several cities that make up the metropolitan area of Tampa Bay. It is by no means a minor-league city, as it is home to the Tampa Bay Lightning of the NHL and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL. As well, the American League's Devil Rays play in St. Pete, a neighboring city.

Tampa doesn't have much to see, though, at least in terms of unique attractions. Theme parks, zoos, and science museums all look reasonably interesting, but there was nothing compelling for we jaded travelers. The best sights are along the water, of which there is plenty in Tampa. Bayshore Drive runs along Hillsborough Bay for miles, and is a nice drive. Harbor Island is a posh area with several gated communities and a shopping area. The downtown is pretty small, but the city itself is very spread out, with miles of unending commercial streets filled with restaurants, auto shops, and strip malls.

Overall, the Tampa area is great for baseball. One major-league team and 4 minor-league teams in the area make Tampa Bay a perfect baseball destination. The lack of interesting attractions just means more time to relax - something that is easy to do in Tampa. Plan to make a trip here and catch a few games - you will enjoy it.
