MUDVILLE - GAME RECAP

The Rancho Cucagmonga Quakes were in town this day so fine
To take on the local heroes, known as the Mudville Nine
Southpaw Cary Ammons got the start for the boys in red
And in the second, Guye Senjem's homer put them by one ahead

Mudville added single runs in the third and sixth inning
But in fact, this excitement was to be just the beginning
In the seventh a double, passed ball and wild pitch
Gave the Nine another run but the Quakes, they didn't twitch

Down by four in the top of the eighth, their chances looked in doubt
But they mounted a stunning comeback, all with two men out
A Bikowski single, a Wagner walk, and a free pass to Lehr as well
Brought Mike O'Keefe to the plate looking to answer the bell

On a 2-1 pitch, he did just that, to right field the ball onward flied
And when it cleared the fence out there, oh my, the game was tied
The local fans were in shock to have lost the lead so quick
But not to fear, for these Mudville Nine had yet another trick

With one out Senjem doubled and the Quakes' strategy turned somewhat unsound
An intentional pass and another walk brought the pitching coach to the mound
The Quakes manager, Tim Wallach, was upset at the turn of events
And after sassing the umpire once too often, he was exiting through the center field fence

With the bases juiced, Wandel Campana shot the first pitch down the line
Two runners scored and the game was again in the favor of the Mudville Nine
Another double plated two more and the game was not in doubt
But Ryan Lundquist followed to the plate and for arguing strikes, was thrown out

The excitement over, the ninth inning was here and in came reliever Mike Neu
Three strikeouts later the game was done and the fans let out a mighty whew
The Mudville Nine had held on to win, 8-4 was the final tally
This game rates an 8/10, because of the Nine's eighth-inning rally!
