DESCRIPTION BALLPARK GAME RECAP

PETE VONACHEN STADIUM

Pete Vonachen Stadium is located on Nebraska Avenue, just off University Avenue. 2002 was the last year for the stadium as Peoria has built a new stadium downtown, but frankly this stadium is more than adequate for A-ball. Parking is free, and once inside the main ticket entrance, the concessions are plentiful underneath the seating on the first-base side. Seats are comfortable, with 12 rows of box seats and 4 rows of bench seats, as well as some extra seating above the concourse on the first base side.

The souvenir shop stocks both Cubs and Cardinals merchandise as Peoria used to be a Cubs' affiliate but is now associated with the Cards. Make sure to pick up a Chatter Sheet at the souvenir office, it gives lineups as well as some interesting tidbits regarding the team and the Midwest League.

There are two scoreboards, one over left center, one over right center, and there are fireworks when a Chief homers. Mark Grace's number 17 is retired and displayed on the left field fence.

This was a good park to see a game, although on the day we went there wasn't much going on as only 543 customers were there (the actual number was probably much less than that!). I guess we will have to visit Peoria again soon to review the new digs, but we certainly don't regret making a visit to Pete Vonachen stadium - it was worth it.
