LYNCHBURG - GAME RECAP

The Lynchburg Hillcats were 6-1 to start the season and had a 3-game lead on the opposition Potomac Cannons in this Carolina League game. But Lynchburg looked terrible tonight, with some poor defense early, and poor pitching throughout. In the first inning, a single, sacrifice, walk, wild pitch, and sacrifice fly gave Potomac a 1-0 lead. Then an error by third baseman Jose Bautista led to an unearned run which made it 2-0.

In the second, Hillcat monster Walter Young crushed a pitch to right to cut the lead in half, but Potomac put the game out of reach by scoring 4 in the third and 4 more in the fourth, helped by 6 walks and a hit batsman. Lynchburg scored a couple to make it 10-4, but Potomac added three more runs in the 7th (2 coming on gigantic home runs) to make the final 13-4 in a long, boring game.

Fortunately, the Lynchburg staff puts on a good show and kept the 361 fans in attendance entertained, something the hometown Hillcats weren't able to do.
