CLINTON - GAME RECAP

The Peoria Chiefs were in town to take on the Lumber Kings. Peoria is probably best known as the team on which Albert Pujols played last season - he is now in the majors with St. Louis. Clinton is the A-ball affiliate of the Montreal Expos, so I was interested in watching some of their prospects.

The game started badly for Clinton who let Peoria's lead off batter, Christopher Morris, reach on an error. Two stolen bases and a groundout later and the score was 1-0 Chiefs. In the 3rd, Clinton tied the game on a single, stolen base, error, and then a groundout. It was still 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth when the Lumber Kings exploded with 4 hits, 2 walks, and a Peoria error, leading to 5 runs. Two Clinton relievers closed the game, giving up a run in the 9th, making the final 6-2.

Attendance was 967, and they were satisfied with the result. Overall, the game was close until the 6th, but it was not that memorable, other than having 9 stolen bases between both teams. Clinton pitched well, so you may see a couple of them on the Expos in a few years. The guy to watch is Josh Girdley, who is listed as Montreal's 4th best prospect by Baseball America. He didn't pitch, but Clinton starter, lefty Benji DeQuin, pitched 6 solid innings. The game gets an average 6/10 rating.
