BATTLE CREEK - GAME RECAP
The Michigan Battle Cats, 2000 Midwest League Champs were taking on the Peoria Chiefs, who we have adopted as our team of the trip, as this was the third time we had seen them play.
Unfortunately, the Chiefs got off to a bad start, committing two errors in the first inning which led to two unearned Battle Cat runs. Although Peoria had baserunners in each of the first four innings, the score remained 2-0 through 6 innings. Then in the 7th, Shaun Boyd (St. Louis 1st-round pick, 13th overall in 2000) bunted for a single and scored on Albert Rodgers home run.
Things were looking up for the Chiefs, but again, luck deserted them. In the bottom of the 8th, the Cats loaded the bases on a double, single, and intentional walk. With two out, defensive replacement Anthony Angel singled in the go-ahead run and closer James Lira pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
It was a great game, played in only 2:06, and although Peoria lost, they battled to the end. This game gets a 7/10.
