DESCRIPTION BALLPARK GAME RECAP

FOX CITIES STADIUM

Fox Cities Stadium is one of the newer ballparks in the Midwest League, having been constructed in 1995. With a capacity of 5,500, it still maintains a small park feel, but is more comfortable than the older stadiums that are in the league.  Due to the fact it was raining, we didn't get a chance to experience the seats, but they looked pretty good. As well, the back net was smaller than usual, which I prefer as it increases the chance for foul balls.

The concourse of the stadium is entirely covered (very handy in a rain delay) and has a couple of interesting features. One is the Wall of Fame which has displays devoted to Appleton baseball history. Appleton has been the home of a number of famous ballplayers, including Boog Powell and Alex Rodriguez, and it is good that the team remembers their past heroes. As well, there is the picnic area that is also covered and lies along the first base line. There are also picnic tables outside the stadium and as this is Wisconsin, tailgating is also permitted. However, no carry-ins are allowed, but as there are plenty of concessions, this should not be a problem. The food prices were a bit more expensive than other Midwest League parks, but due to the short time we were there, we did not partake. Another thing to look for: before the game, the Rattlers have two players signing autographs at the front gate, so make sure not to miss that.

Overall, we can't say much about Fox Cities Stadium as we didn't enjoy a game there. But it is new, very well maintained (the field has been voted Midwest League field of the year for 3 years running), and comfortable. If you are driving between Minneapolis and Milwaukee, consider stopping at Appleton to check out a game, I think you will enjoy it.
