NEW BRITAIN - GAME RECAP

We saw the last game of the regular season as the Northern Division Champion New Britain Rock Cats hosted the Akron Aeros, who did not make the playoffs.

Ken Humphrey got the start for New Britain and was outstanding. In the first inning, he gave up back-to-back singles with two out, but got out of the jam. For the next 8 innings, Akron sent 3 batters to the plate and all 3 returned to the dugout without reaching base. Those two first-inning hits were all that Humphrey allowed as he retired 25 in a row to end the game.

Rock Cat Tony Stevens doubles as Aya and Sharpy look on

For a while, it looked like his teammates wouldn't give him the support he needed as Akron starter Bryan Wolff was perfect through 4 innings. But Michael Cuddyer led off the fifth with a double and he scored on a double by Peterman. As it turned out, that would be all New Britain would need, but they added 4 more runs in the sixth as they won 5-0 - a great way to enter the playoffs. This was a very quick game and it was good to see such a magnificent pitching performance - this game gets an 8/10.
