DETROIT - GAME RECAPS
June 10th - Milwaukee 8 Detroit 3 - Attendance 23,070.
Chris Holt started for the Tigers which was bad news for the home fans - Holt has been horrible at Comerica, and today was not different. A walk to Devon White to lead off the game, a hit batsman, and a Jeromy Burnitz 3-run shot and it was 3-0 Brewers before the fans had settled in to their seats.
Robert Fick homered in the 2nd for the Tigers, but Milwaukee got that one back on 3 singles in the 4th. Detroit showed that they shouldn't be counted out, getting 2 more in their half of the fourth, but that was as close as they would get. Another Burnitz dinger, this one for 2 runs, and two singles were all for Holt. Unfortunately, reliever Victor Santos gave up a 2-run double on his first pitch and the Brew Crew were up 8-3. The rest of the game was not too good, particularly the 72-minute rain delay as a cool storm ripped through the stadium. We waited it out, but the Tiger bats did not and the game finished 8-3. This was not a fun game, and gets a 4/10.

Houston singles in the ninth
September 28th - Detroit 4, Boston 1 - Attendance 32,453.
Both teams were out of the pennant races and it showed as neither had much fight. Jeff Weaver started for the Tigers and he was the story, going 8 shutout innings while his Tiger teammates managed to get 4 singles off Hideo Nomo, including a solo shot by Bobby Higginson in the 5th that made the score 3-0.
Jose Macias had a great game, going 1-3 with a double and a walk, and scoring 2 of the Tigers' 4 runs. As well, he made a spectacular diving catch in the 7th inning to save a run.

In the 9th, with the score 4-0 Detroit, Matt Perisho came in and promptly gave up a pinch-hit home run to Lou Merloni and then a double to Shea Hillebrand. In came closer Matt Anderson who had converted 21 consecutive save opportunities. After striking out James Lofton, he walked Doug Mirabelli to bring the tying run to the plate in Jose Offerman. Offerman crunched a 1-1 pitch deep to right and it looked like extra innings, but Wendell Magee, inserted into right field for his defense, made a super catch against the fence to end the game. Anderson got the save and the Tigers fans went home happy. As well, the two great catches made Web Gems on Baseball Tonight - thus earning this otherwise unremarkable game a 7/10.
